Early in the morning, I came across the reading of the “Parable of the Talents” (found in Matthew 25:14–30), which tells the story of a man who distributed talents (money). The story tells that a wealthy man goes on a journey and entrusts his servants with a certain amount of money, given according to each one’s ability: five talents to one, two talents to another, and one talent to the third.

Notice that although the servants had the same job, the master was able to identify each one’s different abilities to perform their role, since the amount of money given was not the same for everyone. The first servant, with five talents, goes out, works, and negotiates, doubling the capital to ten talents. The second servant, with two talents, does the same and doubles his money to four talents. The third servant, with one talent, is afraid of his master and buries the money in the ground, returning it without multiplying it.

When the master returned, he delivered his judgment. He praises the first two servants as “good and faithful,” and rewards them with new responsibilities and an invitation to share in his joy. The master calls the third servant “wicked and lazy,” rebukes him for not even depositing the money in a bank to earn interest, and orders that the talent be taken from him and given to the one who has ten. Out of fear, he buried his only talent and was reproached for his inertia and negligence.

What conclusion can you draw from this parable TODAY for your story? I can extract several conclusions:

FIRST CONCLUSION

Out of fear and not knowing how to multiply the money, the servant felt paralyzed and lacked the ambition to seek help in order to perform effectively. Fear is one of the greatest enemies for those who want to progress and start new projects.

SECOND CONCLUSION

If we keep the word “talent” in its essence, perhaps the fear of starting a new project is paralyzing the talent you already have, and you just can’t move forward due to the fear of failure when stepping into an entrepreneurial journey.

THIRD CONCLUSION

From the perspective of initiative, notice how important it is to make decisions that will value the investment, in contrast to passivity and inertia. Many times you may face a new goal as something far from your reality, and just because of that thought, you fail to take an active posture in seeking something new and promising for your life.

We don’t always understand the initial process of how to open a children’s clothing store, how to structure a business, and thus fulfill the dream of working for yourself. This should not be a barrier — you need to seek theoretical and practical knowledge to make your success viable.

Should you start something irresponsibly, without an initial structure? Of course not. But you should seek to learn about the business, study the market, connect with entrepreneurs from the children’s segment, and then start your successful children’s store.

The Parable of the Talents is a biblical story that teaches the importance of using the gifts and resources that God gives us with responsibility and efficiency. Hence, the importance of having the right knowledge to avoid frustration and becoming discouraged along the way. In my course ENTELÉQUIA, a Commercial Management and Strategic Planning Course for those who need to structure a functional business with high-performance results — but don’t know where to begin — you will also learn how to manage your team (if you have one) or organize your routine to handle activities across all departments of your company.
